YOUR WELLNESS SPA The Reign in Spain SHA Wellness Clinic provides an all-you-can-ask-for menu of delights in an exquisite mountainside setting. The scenic town of Villa de Altea between Alicante and Valencia, Spain, seems like an uncharacteristic setting for one of the most comprehensive wellness centers in the modern world. But the location of SHA Wellness Clinic— and the renowned SHA Spa contained therein—is no accident. The mountainside facility, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, is located in a climate dubbed "one of the world's best" by the World Health Organization. The Clinic presents a multifaceted health program that includes a macrobiotic diet and movement therapies such as yoga, chi-kung and tai-chi—and self-discovery through fitness work is encouraged. Meanwhile, wellness practitioners are kept busy offering hands-on treatments 40 DAYSPA | SEPTEMBER 2013 that include acupuncture, moxibustion, reiki, water-based physiotherapy (including watsu), a myriad of massage techniques, lymphatic drainage, floral therapy, hydro-colon therapy and more. Even laughter therapy is thrown into the mix! The Spa occupies a generous 2,000 square meters that includes 41 treatment rooms, but therapies can take place in a range of indoor and outdoor locations at SHA (such as the stunning rooftop terrace area pictured below). Detox is a central theme at SHA, with eight body wraps featured on the spa's service menu, along with special detoxification baths. But skin care is not neglected here: 10 facials, plus scalp treatments designed to increase blood flow, are popular picks. —Linda Kossoff
