110 DAYSPA | APRIL 2014 IN THE NEWS Harlan Kirschner, CEO of The Kirschner Group, will be honored with City of Hope's National Professional Salon Industry 2014 Spirit of Life Award. The award, considered the most prestigious philanthropic honor by the nonprofit organization, will be presented on July 12 at City of Hope's "Celebrating Cures" event at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The award recognizes an individual's outstanding leadership and contributions to the community and beauty profession. In addition to his work in helping the Kirschner Group become one of the top global sales organizations in the professional beauty industry, Kirschner also serves as president of City of Hope's National Professional Salon Industry Council; the board of directors for the Professional Beauty Association; chairman of the Manufacturer Leadership Council; and treasurer for the Western Buying Conference. "We are privileged to honor Harlan Kirschner, whose extraordinary vision and innovation has transformed the beauty industry," says Kathleen P. Talbot, City of Hope's director of development, industries. In January, Kirschner and 50 beauty professionals visited City of Hope's Los Angeles campus. The day's activities included a tour of the facility and the Positive Image Center, where patients learn to minimize the cosmetic effects of their illness or medical treatment with free programs and services. City of Hope's CEO and president Robert Stone also addressed the crowd during lunch, sharing a personal experience of his uncle's battle with cancer, and how City of Hope has been instrumental in his treatment process. In this role, Landon will train technicians on Guinot facial and body treatments. Although new to her post, Landon is no skincare amateur. She graduated from the Atelier Esthétique Institute in New York City with a specialty in European facials.
