36 DAYSPA | APRIL 2014 SPOTLIGHT ON... Kristine Halsted, spa director at Serenity Spa By the Falls at the Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa in Ontario, Canada: We carry marine- based line Phytomer and try to incorporate marine- based products into all of our services. We offer the Ocean Glow Body Scrub (45 min./$95), which uses a marine-based scrub to cleanse, exfoliate and oxygenate the body. In our Moroccan Perfect Body (60 min./$105), we exfoliate the skin with marine sea salt, and follow with an application of Moroccan oil. Skin is left feeling smooth and radiant! Kylie Bush, supervisor of Sea Spa at Congress Hall for Cape Resorts Group in Cape May, New Jersey: Our wide range of treatments for both men and wom- en includes massage, skin care, body care, wraps, slim- ming, bronzing and nail services using marine-based products. We employ a tingling algae mousse in our Ocean Memory Marine Ritual ($215), a 100-minute service that includes a full-body scrub and rhythmic massage. During the massage, mineral salt stamps and the algae mousse are applied to the spine to draw out toxins and impurities. It feels amazing! Clients also get to take the mineral salt stamp home with them. What are the benefi ts of employing marine- based ingredients in spa treatments? Bush: I believe they can deliver truly healing results. Algae is pretty amazing stuff—it has high mineral content and vitamins, amino acids and antibacterial properties that allow the body to be restored and balanced. Just think of how fantastic you feel after a swim in the ocean! You just don't fi nd such all-inclu- sive benefi ts like detoxifi cation, rebalancing, hydrat- ing and soothing in other skincare products. Fox-Crismond: We use the marine-based line from Osea, which helps restore skin health and improve overall appearance via organic, technically ad- vanced formulations that combine the many vita- mins, minerals and essential fatty acids found in the earth and sea. Which marine-based ingredients are your favorites and why? Halsted: I like to work with freeze-dried algae because you can easily mix it with different ingredients such as essential oils and waters, and customize the ser- vice to the clients' individual needs.
