dayspamagazine.com | JULY 2014 35 Sonatherapy, practiced exclusively at that facility by its developer, Gary Robert Buchanan. Based on the theo- ries of cymatic, or vibrational, therapy, the treatment involves several modalities, including handheld equip- ment, to apply to the body sound frequencies that resonate with cells, tissues, organs and nerves. "A therapy like this reminds cells to regenerate to their previous form of health," explains Hill. Exhale Spa (exhalespa.com), with 20 locations in 11 cities globally, also offers a vibrational therapy treatment, but this one is performed with a tuning fork. Reiki is also on the menu. "Guests may not choose these services on their fi rst visit," admits Laura Benge, Exhale's national spa director, "but they're a way for us to take guests to the next level. It's an extension of the power of touch they already experience with massage. We're able to open the door for them to 5,000-year-old therapies that be- come transformational for them." Schwarz suggests a basic intake questionnaire or even casual conversation to determine whether cli- ents are interested in energy-based approaches to their treatment. "Just asking them if they've ever heard of, or had any experience with, these therapies can open the conversation," he says. In the Right Hands A spa staff that's well versed and enthusiastic about energy work is a critical component toward success in this arena—everyone should be able to describe and discuss these treatments. That way, if a client ex- presses interest at any time during his or her spa visit, anyone from an esthetician to a front desk employee can steer that person in that right direction. CYMATHERAPY, SOUND/ VIBRATIONAL THERAPY Gongs, drums, bowls, tuning forks, musical instruments and specialized equipment may be utilized to effect vibrational resonance in the body, which enables over- or under- stimulated energy to rebalance.
