86 DAYSPA | APRIL 2016 IN THE NEWS Veritiv Corporation's Packaging Solutions Group recently announced the creation of Earth Pact Sugar Cane Paperboard, a sustainable packaging option for the cosmetics and food industries. Developed in partnership with Carvajal Pulp and Paper, the new material is made entirely of pure sugarcane bagasse, an agricultural by-product of the sugar-making process. Grown year-round and harvested every 12 to 14 months, sugarcane is considered a rapidly renewable resource. The sugarcane fi ber paper contains no bleach, chemicals or dyes and comes in moisture- and grease-resistant grades. Sweet Sustainability Skincare company HydroPeptide has launched its "See the Difference With Your Own Eyes" campaign, a collaboration with charity: water to help people around the world who lack access to clean water. In the last seven years, the charity: water nonprofi t has funded 10,000 projects that deliver safe drinking water to 3.5 million people in 20 countries. These projects range from building wells and harvesting rainwater to creating piped water systems and using biosand fi lters. By donating profi ts from the sale of its Eye Authority eye cream, HydroPeptide will commission construction of a new well each month throughout 2016. The location and progress of each well can be tracked on charitywater.org, allowing consumers to see how and where their money is utilized. In addition to providing valuable aid, HydroPeptide hopes the campaign will inspire individuals by enabling its customers to impact global change with minimal effort.
