32 DAYSPA | AUGUST 2016 Clear Skin AHEAD Nine spa pros divulge how their specialized protocols help alleviate clients' rosacea and acne. By Kelsey Nolan Acne and rosacea plague people of all demographics. These visible, often uncomfortable skin disorders can make clients feel frustrated and self-conscious—and that's when they turn to your spa's expert estheticians for help. Although similar, acne and rosacea are two separate maladies that need to be treated as such. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is the single most common skin condition, affecting teenagers and adults alike. It can surface as tiny breakouts or large cysts and pustules, and severe cases may leave clients with pockmarks and lesions. The cause of rosacea is unknown, but this stubborn infl ammation typically affects clients over the age of 30, and presents as red patches and blotches that periodically fl are up, then go into remission. Left untreated, bumps and pimples often develop, and in extreme cases the nose may grow swollen and lumpy due to excess tissue. To discover some of the most effective methods for reducing breakouts, redness and infl ammation, DAYSPA spoke with nine spa experts who are actively helping their customers achieve healthy, clear skin. Some swear by salicylic acid, while others prefer a more holistic approach; many emphasize case-by-case customization, and a number rely on tried-and-trusted devices. Whatever their method and tools, these savvy professionals pay close attention to their clients' needs to deliver results that ensure relief and boosted self-confi dence. © GETTY IMAGES
