36 DAYSPA | AUGUST 2016 B e t a H y d r o x y A c i d P e e l Beta Hydr xy Acid Peel (20-25 min./$150) THE SPA: Ablon Skin Institute, Manhattan Beach, CA THE BRAND: Quasar Bio-Tech THE STEP-BY-STEP: Cleanse skin with a multiple hydroxy acid cleanser. Degrease the complexion with alcohol or acetone. Apply a beta hydroxy acid peel, then use the Quasar Professional Light Therapy wand for three to fi ve minutes. Remove peel; apply a cooling mask for three minutes or until it self-neutralizes. Finish with an SPF. PRO TIP: Let there be light. "Everyone wants immediate results," says Ablon Skin Institute proprietor Glynis Ablon, MD. "I'm careful to tell clients what I can do for their skin, and help them fi gure out how to look their best." For optimum benefi ts, Ablon uses Quasar's Red Light Therapy to address infl ammation and Blue Light Therapy to help clear bacteria; light color and time can be adjusted for each client. "I've been using LED lights for a long time and they're very effective, especially on teenagers with acneic skin," she reports. "We also sell the Baby Quasar Pro Kit for home use between sessions. It's small, but works hard!" O i l C o n t r o l L a s e r F a c i a l l C ntr l La se a cia l (90 min./$250-$375) THE SPA: Skin Laser Studios, New York City THE BRAND: Shira Esthetics THE STEP-BY-STEP: Cleanse using Shir-Organic Pure Coconut Oatmeal Cleanser, Eucalyptus Cleanser or Seaweed Cleanser. Perform a Hydro Microdermabrasion with Shir- Organic Pure AHA Treatment Scrub, then apply Shir-Organic Pumpkin Smoothing Peel with steam. Carry out extensive extractions. If necessary, treat skin with a Candela Smoothbeam laser treatment, to promote collagen and normalize oil glands. Apply the Shir-Organic Pure Oil-Control Eucalyptus or Revitalizing Pomegranate Serum, followed by the Shir-Organic Red Lava Mineral Mask. Finish by massaging Glyco-C High Potent-C Serum or Boto-Derm Rx Vita-Burst Peptide Complex into the skin. PRO TIP: Keep it simple. Marta Elena Rodriguez, owner of Skin Laser Studios, believes that the best way to treat acne is to restore balance to the skin. To do that, clients need to refrain from using too many products. "People may be using inappropriate skin care to treat their own acne at the wrong times in their life. For example, I don't want my young clients to use antiaging cream; I want them to be gentle with their skin rather than strip it of all its oils. That way I can slowly shrink the oil glands myself and normalize their skin, reducing infl ammation and acne. I've found that my clients with the best complexions have minimal skincare routines." E x c u r i a S i g n a t u r e F a c i a l xcu ria Sign atu r a cia l (60 min./$90) THE SPA: Excuria Salon and Spa, Williamsville, New York THE BRAND: Éminence THE STEP-BY-STEP: Cleanse with Calm Skin Chamomile Cleanser or Lemon Grass Cleanser. Apply either Hawthorn Tonique or Sweet Red Rose Tonique. Choose the Calm Skin Chamomile Exfoliating Peel, Radish Seed Refi ning Peel or Pineapple Enzyme Pro Peel 10%; massage scalp while exfoliant sets. Remove peel with a cool towel, apply toner. Perform extractions if necessary. Apply the Calm Skin Masque, Sweet Red Rose Masque, Yellow Sweet Clover Masque or the Stone Crop Masque. Mix in the Calm Skin Booster, and perform a hand or foot massage. Remove with cool towel, then apply toner. Massage Calm Skin Moisturizer, Apricot Calendula, Sweet Red Rose or Linden Calendula Cream into skin. Finish with an eye cream and lip balm. PRO TIP: Soothe sensitivity. Sensitive skin can be a major challenge when fi ghting acne, especially if the client tries to self-treat their skin at home, reports Nicole Scheck, an esthetician at Excuria Salon and Spa. "We choose these Éminence products for clients with sensitive skin because chamomile is extremely calming; arnica is antibacterial and cooling for those who feel heat in their skin; and mandelic acid reduces redness and gives a healthy glow while still delivering antiaging benefi ts," she says. © GETTY IMAGES Clear Skin AHEAD
