Page 83 of 100 | AUGUST 2016 81 EXPORTING EXCELLENCE In recognition for its contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports, Iredale Mineral Cosmetics (IMC) has received the President's "E" Award for Exports. The award was presented at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C., by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker to company founder and president Jane Iredale. The IMC brand is distributed in over 50 countries worldwide, and Iredale reports that 30% of IMC's revenue comes from export sales, which has "enabled us to sustain jobs and even expand our work force domestically." The "E" symbol of exporting excellence was established by President Kennedy in 1961 to recognize American companies that help strengthen this key aspect of the economy. It's estimated that in 2015, exports supported an estimated 11.5 million jobs. This year, 123 companies were honored with the award. "The 'E' Awards Committee was very impressed with Iredale Mineral Cosmetics' emphasis on comprehensive market research used for strategic market entry," noted Secretary Pritzker. "The company's investment in multi-language marketing materials and website design was also particularly notable." Programmed to Succeed The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) has announced the winners of its annual Beacon program, created to help promising cosmetology students prepare for successful careers in the beauty industry. Students from across the country submitted their applications, and 100 winners and 200 honorable mentions were named to attend 2016's PBA Beauty Week in Las Vegas, where they received specialized education and opportunities to network with high-profi le salon owners, stylists and other beauty industry professionals. Beacon applicants receive a scholarship funded by the Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation for the cost of entering. This year, 1,000 scholarships were available for eligible applicants and were granted on a fi rst-come, fi rst-served basis. Among the awardees were students from U.S. campuses of Paul Mitchell The School and Aveda Institute, as well as Pivot Point Academy in Bloomingdale, Illinois; The Ohio Academy in Columbus; Ogle School locations throughout Texas; and the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology. PBA Beauty Week is produced by the PBA and hosted by Cosmoprof North America.
