26 DAYSPA | SEPTEMBER 2016 by an application of the NuFACE microcurrent device (which gave me a decidedly brighter and fi rmer face in my trip photos!). My last stop in wine country was just a few miles north in the city of St. Helena, to Meadowood (meadowood.com). Founded in 1964 as a private country club, this stunning 250-acre resort is the choice of many a celebrity looking for some undisturbed R & R. Meadowood is designed to provide an un- paralleled experience, from its grand, welcoming lobby and generously appointed rooms, suites and cottages; to its immaculate swimming pools and tennis and croquet courts; to its Michelin three-star restaurant run by famed Chef Christopher Kostow. The biggest Meadowood news of late is the November 2015 renovation of the resort's spa, over- seen by visionary spa director Michael Conte. Built in a window-fi lled U-shape surrounding a lush courtyard, the ingeniously designed structure "incorporates na- ture without disturbing it," explains Conte. A unique aspect of the facility is its all-suite concept: Each pri- vate spa suite accommodates not only the treatment area itself, but a shower, sauna, restroom and relax- ation area, so that guests never need to leave their own space until their service is complete.
