LaTesha Council of Alexandria, Virginia, will receive $5,000 to off set her education expenses, as well as a mentor to help her navigate her career aspirations for the next year. She will also be given a one-year ISPA student membership, and all her ISPA Conference & Expo expenses will be covered. The scholarship was created in 2006 and was later named to honor Mary Tabacchi, PhD, RD, a spa industry veteran and pioneer in spa education. Council is in her second year of the Master of Tourism Administration program at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she is focusing on hospitality management. Upon her graduation this December, she hopes to work in spa operations and development, and to one day own and operate a spa consulting business. "LaTesha's dedication to her education and desire to be a leader in the spa industry are exactly what we need in our business to tackle issues and provide forward-thinking solutions," says Frank Pitsikalis, ISPA Foundation chairman. "She will be a great asset to our community, and we are honored to recognize her achievements and encourage her future endeavors." The ISPA Conference & Expo will take place from October 16 to 18. Now, drug delivery technology company CURE Pharmaceutical, based in Oxnard, California, has partnered with leading cannabis laboratory Technion Research and Development Foundation Ltd. to research and develop cannabinoid-based medicines that can be used to treat various types of cancer. The collaboration, part of CURE Pharmaceutical's alliance with CannaKids, will seek to clarify exactly which cannabis extracts work on which cancer subtypes, says Robert Davidson, CEO of CURE Pharmaceutical. This is expected to help identify new drug candidates, as well as optimize cannabis treatment options for patients, furthering efforts toward the creation of personalized medicine. "The goal is to take the discoveries all the way through to human trials, resulting in a pharmaceutical that can be prescribed by medical professionals and covered by a patient's insurance," notes Tracy Ryan, CEO of CannaKids. "With groundbreaking discoveries already being made, we are more excited than ever for the future of cannabinoid medicines for those suffering from cancer and other serious diseases."
