Griffi n Churchwell licensed esthetician and laser technician The Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville Nashville, Tennessee I would spend that time on self-care in the morning. I'd start with a 30-minute yoga fl ow to stretch out and get my circulation going, then I'd sit comfortably with a blanket over my lap and meditate for 15 minutes. Finally, I'd make a cup of green tea with a teaspoon of honey, watch the sun rise, and enjoy the peace and quiet before starting my day. It's important that I ground and center myself; client interactions take energy, and if I don't take care of myself, I can't take care of others. Yoga and meditation help me stay focused and manage stress. u " " Jennifer Charm owner and esthetician Carabella Cosmetics & Skin Care Chatsworth, California I would go through my books, from six months to a year (or more) back, and personally call all the clients I haven't seen recently to fi nd out how they're doing, ask about their past service and fi gure out how to entice them back. As much as I work on SEO and marketing, I have previously had great results rescheduling these 'missing' clients simply by reaching out and giving them my attention. A call from the owner has real value—and 90 percent of those reached rebook! My clients are my livelihood and I care about how they are doing in life; many have become friends and a few are like family. I want them to know that I care. " " Alina Cimporeru lead esthetician Guerlain Spa at The Plaza Hotel New York City I would do a breathing exercise. Sometimes we forget to breathe properly; the air you inhale should go all the way down to your belly, using your diaphragm and muscles in the abdomen, chest, neck and shoulders. We must be aware of our breath: An extended exhale increases relaxation and makes the inhale deeper and more rhythmic. Ideally, your inhale should be two to three seconds long, and your exhale three to four seconds followed by a two- to three-second pause. Taking control of our breathing and making it peaceful gives us energy and allows us to be more happy and loving. If I could take an extra hour a day to practice a breathing exercise, I know I would have improved health, greater harmony, less anxiety and fear, better relationships and a happier life. M O R E O N T H E W E B RETAIL ROCKSTAR THE SPA @LisaMiamiSkin in Miami THE PRO Lisa Masserio, owner THE STAR SAIAN Sunscreen Mist High Protection SPF 30 WHY IT ROCKS "Here in Florida, daily sun protection is not optional—it's a must! I finish every facial with a few refreshing spritzes of this light, airy SPF. My clients absolutely love that it's water-based and paraben-, oil-, alcohol- and fragrance- free. It's formulated for acneic and sensitive skin, but those with all skin types—including men—enjoy it because the mist is noncomedogenic and feels clean. Plus it can easily be worn under makeup," says Masserio. "I always keep a tester handy in my retail area. I demonstrate by spraying the sunscreen on a client's arm and gently brushing their skin with my hand, so they can see that it dries quickly and transparently, with no odor or sticky residue." building blocks quick question
