As befi tted this year's theme, Ignite!, the event promised—and delivered—plenty of inspiration and education. Also on the agenda: meeting and networking with an A to Z of over 200 manufacturers and exhibitors on the packed show fl oor. Day One began with a minute's silence to honor the victims of the recent shooting, followed by a moving performance of "Together As One" by singer Star Swain. ISPA Chairman Todd Shaw then took the stage to welcome the crowd and discuss the new Get Your Dream Job initiative in conjunction with Beauty Changes Lives. Keynote speaker, social psychologist, author and lecturer Amy Cuddy, discussed how a sense of personal power is crucial to well-being, and that by adopting a "power pose" we can create a greater sense of control, in particular immediately before diffi cult interactions and situations. On Day Two, Colin Mcilheney, global research director of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), presented the latest ISPA Industry Report, comprising the Big 5 fi gures: • Total revenue: $16.8 billion (a 3.1 percent increase over 2015) • Revenue per visit: $91 • Spa visits: 184 million • Spa locations: 21,260 (a 1.1 percent increase) • Number of employees: 365,200 (a 1.6 percent increase) Mcilheney noted that 61 percent of those surveyed reported service provider vacancies, and he went on to announce a new PwC-commissioned survey into engagement and retention in the industry (spaworkforcesurvey.com), which will hopefully provide some insights into the ongoing issue. LaTesha Council from Alexandria, Virginia, accepted the Mary Tabacchi Scholarship, and hospitality industry veteran Mary Wisnom, professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, was given the 2017 ISPA Dedicated Contributor Award. Keynote Daniel Pink captivated the audience with a presentation on motivation. Day Three featured a much-anticipated keynote by Peyton Manning, who also accepted the 2017 ISPA Alex Szekely Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic work, notably the PeyBack Foundation, which provides opportunities for children at risk.
