[ 14 ] • # dayspamagazine • january 2018 T E A M T R A V E L S from the editor by Lesley McCave I f 2017 taught us anything, it was that it's more important than ever to stand up for what's right. The #MeToo movement gave men, women and transgender people around the world the courage to come forward and talk about abuse they've suff ered—silently—for weeks, months, years. I may not have fi rsthand knowledge of what these individuals have been through, but because of their strength and incredible accounts I have just one thing on my New Year's resolution list for 2018: educate myself. By that I mean read more substantial literature, be it books or blogs, and watch documentaries about topics that matter, from obscure human-interest stories to based- on-a-true-story biopics. I'm seeking truthful, pithy, tell-me-more material, not fl uff or frivolities. Life is too short, and time too precious, to waste on anything less. I hope that by becoming educated I will become empowered. I also hope that my intention resonates with—and even inspires—you. As a busy spa owner, you're sure to agree that every minute counts, and that knowledge is power. With that in mind, we hope you'll appreciate our fi rst issue of the year, which is packed with information. From an essential oils primer ("Scents and Sensibility," page 60) to a 101 on cleansing ("A Clean Slate," page 48) to an update on skincare delivery systems ("Safe Passage," page 28), we've got the details. We've also spruced up a couple of regular sections, Raves & Faves (page 18) and Essentials (page 76), to keep the magazine looking fun and fresh. So put the kettle on, brew a soothing beverage (may we suggest the Green Immuni- Tea on page 44?) and dive in. Happy New Year! P.S. This month's Management Workshop (page 64) tackles the topic of workplace burnout. Have you or one of your employees ever experienced it? If so, what steps were taken to resolve it? Drop me a line—in confi dence—at lmccave@creativeage.com. I experienced the new Jurlique Spa at the Intercontintental in Buckhead, Atlanta Laura received laser hair removal at the Beverly Hills Rejuvenation Center in Los Angeles Sarah enjoyed taking the waters at Glen Ivy Hot Springs in Corona, California Want to have your say in DAYSPA?
