[ 10 ] • # dayspamagazine • august 2018 T E A M T R A V E L S from the editor by Laura Waldon I recently returned from the Premiere Orlando beauty event in Florida, where I got to see and experience some of the industry's latest and greatest trends fi rsthand— including a slew of products and devices that had spa pros swarming, eager to ensure that their businesses remain on the cutting edge. There were defi nitely fun new off erings on display, but some of the most popular ones were n't entirely surprising: sheet masks and facial oils continue to attract serious attention, and green beauty products, from skin care to cosmetics, remain all the rage. But we're also seeing a bigger industry focus on ways to calm irritated skin—a cause near and dear to my heart, as someone who suff ers from rosacea and a reactive complexion in general. I know all too well what it's like to struggle with painful or unsightly symptoms, and how hard it can be to fi nd topicals that my face can tolerate. Lately, thanks in part to the internet's DIY skincare fads, more and more people are experiencing redness and sensitivity—but, as you know, it's rarely a good idea for them to take such matters into their own hands (literally). To help you better serve these clients, we've compiled advice from industry authorities on this broad issue: "Beating the Flush" (page 18) tackles the complex topic of infl ammation, our Spotlight column on page 24 addresses strategies to soothe sensitive skin, and Must Have on page 36 highlights a host of acne fi ghters. Perhaps the only thing more common than the quest for a clear complexion is clients' ongoing search for younger-looking skin. Scientifi c advances are making it easier than ever for estheticians to deliver the antiaging goods to guests, but that also means that pros must constantly work to stay on top of the best options at their disposal. So, on page 40, our "Gene Genius" feature delves into the connection between DNA and skin care—and how it can factor into your services. For the devices that can take some of those options to the next level, fl ip to page 38. And for clients who want to boost their results between visits, we've also reviewed an array of potent skin-fi rming products in this month's Raves & Faves (page 14). There's no doubt that the skincare business is booming, and that the options available to both pros and consumers can sometimes be overwhelming. But whatever conditions are plaguing your clients, I hope this issue gives you a clearer picture of how you can better assist them in getting the gorgeous skin they deserve.
