[ 10 ] • # dayspamagazine • october 2018 T E A M T R A V E L S from the editor by Laura Waldon I 'm writing this during the height of summer in Southern California, which for me is comprised entirely of traveling, pool hopping, and chasing a niece and four nephews around; for DAYSPA, it also means my fellow editors and I have just fi nished sifting through box after box of seasonal products to compile our annual Holiday Gift Guide! While it seems surreal for us to be thinking "'tis the season" in 100-degree weather, we know that it 's perfect timing for spa pros, who are already starting to consider what they'll be stocking when the winter holidays hit. So kick-start your retail plans by flipping to page 36, where you'll fi nd a variety of gift options that appeal to just about everyone— and will hopefully inspire your clients' generosity. This issue's focus on kindness doesn't end there. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Spotlight (page 18) showcases spa brands that give back to a number of charities throughout the month of October and, in some cases, year-round. For a more in-depth look at how to serve clients undergoing cancer treatments, check out "A Healing Touch" on page 44, where fi ve spas discuss their off erings for oncology patients seeking respite and rejuvenation. Meanwhile, whether it's a physical or spiritual endeavor, self-care is the gift that keeps on giving—for you and your clients. This month's Alternative Health column (page 52) will help you cover both; it delves into qigong, a staple of Traditional Chinese Medicine that's been shown to improve practitioners' minds and bodies, and is easily integrated into wellness off erings as well as your own lifestyle. Additionally, a simple delight you can extend to your guests and loved ones (or even indulge in yourself!) comes in the form of the "Sweet Treat" recipe for a decadent yet nutritious dessert on page 34. Wherever the spirit of giving takes you in the coming season and beyond, I hope this issue inspires new ideas that allow you to take even better care of your clients and yourself. I learned about RevitaLash's latest launches at the brand's cocktail party in West Hollywood, CA Alexa celebrated #wellnessmonth with Live Love Spa at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, CA Jasmine attended Dermalogica's Clear Start debut with Lili Reinhart of "Riverdale" in Santa Mon ica, CA Spirit of Giving Don't forget to go online and cast your votes for our Professionals Choice Awards!
