Page 65 of 77 • december 2018 • [ 63 ] A new clinical trial found that higher doses of Botox Cosmetic are safe and effective for minimizing moderate to severe glabellar lines— the vertical creases between the eyebrows, also known as "frown lines" or "11 lines." Allergan conducted the study to compare 40-, 60- and 80-unit doses to the normally recommended 20-unit dose, and found that the higher-dose options were not only well tolerated but extended the duration of desired outcomes to 24 weeks in one out of three patients. "These results confi rm our hypothesis that higher doses of botulinum toxin produce a longer duration of treatment effect for glabellar lines," says Allergan chief research and development offi cer David Nicholson.
