78 @dayspamagazine • March 2019 IN THE NEWS Global spa and wellness consultancy Raison d'Etre, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, has announced its top fi ve wellness trends to watch out for in 2019: 1. In Real Life Spas will play an important role as hubs for social interaction, infl uencing the design, function and focus of public spa spaces, as well as sparking a discussion about whether wellness is a luxury or something that should be available to and affordable for everyone. 2. Back to Basics Travel Growing environmental awareness is creating a shift in how and why people travel—they're taking fewer trips, but travel in order to participate in society. So, spas should consider how they can encourage relationships with self, others and nature for an authentic experience. 3. From Mindfulness to Kindness Altruism is replacing the consumer notion of mindfulness. This will mean showing generosity towards clients and the environment, as well as looking after the well-being of staff. It also means shorter spa menus that address clients' moods, rather than a long list of rituals. 4. 21st Century Arts and Crafts People are gathering to craft together, demonstrating a greater understanding of the contentment that creating something with your own hands can bring. Expect to see spas hosting more creative workshops and incorporating mixology bars. 5. Mental Health Awareness As conversations about mental health, suicide prevention and social care continue, spas will not only educate clients about physical well-being but emotional and psychological wellness, too. The Future of Wellness LAUNCHTIME! To help spas cash in on the growing demand for face and body exfoliation products and ser vices, Repêchage introduced the FUSION Face & Body Sugar Scrub Collection. Available for backbar and retail, the Chocolate Espresso Invigorate and Matcha Lemongrass Deep Cleanse Scrubs are creamy formulas that gently slough away dr y skin with sugar, sustainably har vested seaweed extracts and other natural ingredients. Designed to address environmental pollutants, the HydroPeptide Anti-Wrinkle and Detoxify Collection helps clear, purify, repair and protect the skin. The four retail items include a probiotic-packed balancing essence; a hydrating mist that defends against blue light; pore per fecting nose strips; and micellar cleansing wipes. Two professional backbar products—a honey, enzyme and antioxidant peel, and a phytonutrient detox mask—complete the line. © GETTY IMAGES
