Yeehaw! "In a high-tech world, we are yearning for simpler times, and that's the inspiration for our latest collection, Heartlands," says Janell Geason, global artistic director, Aveda. "The textures are velvety and the colors are rich, but not too saturated. We wanted it to look more like a stain, as if the color is radiating from within." Although the 2013 Fall season is bringing in a wave of extreme definition and bold color, there is also a more subtle trend in the air—one that simply highlights natural facial features with the help of rich, earthy hues. "For eyes, I'm seeing nomadic, 'lived-in' liner on the bottom lash line," says Geason. "With the return to modern classics, the easiest way to do this is with a rich, deep lip. For staying power, reverse the steps and apply liner over lipstick. It creates more of a matte effect." "People are embracing the 'slow' movement, a return to all things authentic, including the authentic self," says Shel Pink, founder of nail company SpaRitual. "As a result, they are seeking more timeless, rich and classic shades of color that correspond with their deep need to connect authentically."
