Olsen won't do this intense treatment in the summer. "It must be done with great care because you're thinning the skin, exposing the lower layers to the elements. It works better in autumn and spring." The spa's Neck Lift Treatment (30 min./$111) stimulates the motor nerve of the muscle with microcurrent. "We put one electrode on the mode of the muscle and move the other electrode this in all our facials, and teach the clients to do lymphatic drainage at home. It is so simple, yet so beneficial in anti-aging." Some clients opt for the Hydradermie, Fountains' standard facial, which includes the neck and décolleté, although it's not a focused treatment. "It incorporates light exfoliation, deep pore cleansing, oxygenation, massage for the face and neck, and then a mask," said Olsen. "Because the Hydradermie is an electrical current, we can get the nutrients down into the core cell. It has two currents, one (galvanic) to transport ingredients and open the pores. Showing women the difference between how their cheek looks and how their décolleté looks is very telling." It's the machine, and not your brain, that's giving those muscles messages to move. The effect is much deeper because the machine is working the whole muscle." Olsen recommends six treatments (one per week). Afterward, the client can continue one treatment per month for maintenance. The cost difference between the Microdermabrasion and Neck Lift treatments has to do with the ingredients used in the latter. Clients usually get both treatments as add-ons to a facial, although they can be done as stand-alone treatments. Olsen also underscores the importance of lymphatic massage. Since Fountains is just outside of Washington, D.C., many of Olsen's clients attend a flurry of holiday events. "They may start treatments as early as mid-October, depending on the number of parties they have to go to," she wnotes. She recommends that a client come in once a week starting three weeks before their first event. Depending on the client, Olsen might alternate between a Hydradermie and a Neck Lift.
