Style By the Inch SPASOCIAL's "party rooms" create a more intimate spa environment. SPASOCIAL | Round Rock, Texas Date opened: October 2013 Owner: Amanda Lyles Square footage: 500-square-foot spaces within a 11,444-square-foot spa Number of employees: 18 Services offered: Massage, facials, body treatments, waxing, lash extensions, makeup applications, private parties Product lines: Enfusia, Hard Night Good Morning, Niven Morgan, SALVE, Veritas Bioactive Cosmetics Amanda Lyles runs a successful Austin-area spa that's big in size and stature, its 11,000-plus square feet encompassing a private pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and wine bar. Not surprisingly, what she felt was missing was a small spa atmosphere. So, she set about creating "party rooms" within her overall space to cultivate the feeling of a mini spa within a spa."I wanted guests to be able to 'spa with friends' in an intimate environment," Lyles says. No small task, considering that each party room would span less than 500 square feet, and would offer manicures, pedicures, blow-outs, makeup applications and massages. "We needed to offer these services and still allow guests to feel they had the 46 DAYSPA | DECEMBER 2013 space to just roam around, as they would at a regular party," Lyles explains. To realize her dream, Lyles worked with New York City interior designer Alexis Ufland (see "Accentuate the Positive", page 48) and Ali Meyer of Ali Meyer Design in Austin, who focused on maximizing the space. In came custom-built multi-purpose equipment and attractive storage pieces to go under the pedicure chairs, as well as the shampoo and styling stations. Treatment spaces were arranged to create a flow that made sense—for example, the blow-drying area is situated at the back of the shampoo station. Focal points infuse each space at SPASOCIAL with attitude: One party room has a black and white striped statement wall; another has a room-wide mirror. "These elements make the room look larger," says Lyles. The rooms were further opened up with bright paint and lighting, and the ceilings raised to lend the illusion of more space. The personal-spa-within-a-spa concept has paid off. "SPASOCIAL customers are some of the most enthusiastic spa patrons in greater Austin," declares Lyles. "They often praise our unique concept and are exhilarated to have a place where they can enjoy bachelorette parties, baby showers and birthday celebrations. Thanks to the intimacy of the rooms, they feel like they're in their own private spa for the day!"
