IN THE NEWS The nwa Ru ort Rep y HAIR/MAKEUP Aveda (aveda.com) proved its hair-styling versatility on both U.S. soil and across the pond as the brand worked on quite a few 'dos and faces during New York and London Fashion Weeks. The company made a splash among the Brits at the Adidas by Stella McCartney Spring/Summer 2014 show. The line's chic, high-performance designs inspired the ponytails and buns with braided accents seen on the models. "We designed a low ponytail and bun at the nape of the neck with subtle braid detailing and a highshine sport-luxe finish to not only look good but also withstand a high-performance workout," says Antoinette Beenders, Aveda global creative director. In the Big Apple, Aveda's hair and makeup expertise turned heads at the Steven Alan, Osklen, Ann Yee and Public School shows. For the Osklen show, the brand kept it simple with sleek, low ponytails—with a twist. "Osklen's collection features a lot of V-shapes, which we recreated with the hair," explains Beenders. Men's manes were also tended to during the Public School show. Aveda created an angular look with blunt lines to accompany the structured menswear shown on the runways. For Ann Yee, Aveda provided braided looks that combined urban street style with shiny, modern elegance. Makeup was on the menu at the Steven Alan presentation as Aveda's artists delivered fresh and flawless looks for the designer's vibrant-yet-soft theme. Mirabella (mirabellabeauty.com) created "enchanting" looks at Korto Momolu's "Enchanted Fantasy" show at New York Fashion Week. Color was the name of the game as models' eyes were accented with electric blue shadow, which was complemented with ombré pouts that were a feminine mix of light pink and berry. Stila Cosmetics (stilacosmetics.com) made a splash at five of New York Fashion Week's biggest shows: Alice + Olivia, Rebecca Minkoff, Trina Turk, Cynthia Rowley and Lela Rose. Stila's team of artists delivered a range of looks to accompany the designers respective themes. Shows such as Rebecca Minkoff and Trina Turk emphasized a more natural, nomadic look, employing warm tones and neutrals. For Alice + Olivia, Stila paid homage to the sweet, fresh-faced All-American girl, delivering rosy cheeks and nude pouts. "Effortlessly chic" was the inspiration behind Cynthia Rowley and Lela Rose. Both shows employed modern-yet-feminine looks that utilized bold shadows and liners to accentuate the eyes.
