O TWO OF HEARTS DESTINY DAY SPA (destinydayspa.com) Bossier City, Louisiana THE SERVICE: Couple's Retreat (80 min./$210 plus optional add-ons) Couples are invited to choose from three options: dual 80-minute massages; an 80-minute massage for one and 50-minute massage plus 30-minute facial for the other; or 50-minute massages and 30-minute facials for both. Couples can add on a 20-minute whirlpool session ($20) with or without chocolatecovered strawberries and Champagne ($30). S SETTING THE MOOD: The 6,500-square-foot Destiny Day Spa, founded in 1997 and in its current location since 2006, has two couples' suites: the "red suite", which has an Asian décor and features a private whirlpool, and the "green suite", which has a more contemporary décor. A full-service salon on the lower level enables couples to prolong their experience with side-by-side pedicures or hair services. WHY IT'S SWOON-WORTHY: In addition to the flexibility of the service, which allows couples to customize their experience, owner Kristi Tift believes that the spa's suites are a big draw. "Couples love our suites, and our therapists work together to keep the ambiance in the suites quiet and comfortable to all senses," she says. "The couples have a sense of togetherness—it might be the first time one of them is experiencing massage so being together makes them feel more comfortable. The simple fact of knowing that your partner is receiving the same experience as you is wonderful in itself." HOTEL ATLANTIS SPA (atlantiscasino.com) Reno, Nevada THE SERVICE: The Terra Sigillata Rasul Ceremony (50 min./$140) or the Ultimate Couples Rasul Retreat (160 min./$575) For the Terra Sigillata, the couple applies six healing muds to each others' bodies, then enters the beautifully appointed rasul chamber to experience an infusion of aromatic steam followed by a tropical shower. They are then free to use the spa's other amenities. For the Ultimate Couples Rasual Retreat, a creamy blend of fruit and other luxury oils replaces the muds. After the rasul and steam, the couple enjoys a floral bath before settling onto treatment tables for sideby-side aromatherapy massages. S SETTING THE MOOD: In addition to the sensory delights of the 30,000-square-foot spa (including 30 pool area), couples are able to experience true togetherness: co-ed lounge areas afford the opportunity for opposite- 54 DAYSPA | JANUARY 2014 gender twosomes to stay together throughout their visit. Not surprisingly, the spa was just named Best Spa for Romance by SpaFinder. WHY IT'S SWOONWORTHY: "The origins of this ceremony are from the days when harem girls were being prepared for the sultan," explains Kimberlee Tolkien, assistant general manager for Atlantis Casino Resort. "It's really the ultimate in an 'I do' purification experience." Comments one proud spa team member, "With these treatments we provide guests with a whole new experience they can have together. There are no interruptions, no electronics, just you with your significant other, applying these muds or oils. It's true intimacy."
