O TWO OF HEARTS SPA AT FOUR SEASONS RESORT MAUI AT WAILEA (fourseasons.com) Maui, Hawaii THE SERVICE: The Ultimate Cocoon (110 min./$575) The service starts with a soak in a whirlpool treated with a mixture of sea salt and botanical extracts. Next, guests sink into a warm "cocoon" bed for a wrap using therapeutic ayurvedic oils. The women's blend is formulated to help with hormone balance, metabolic and enzymatic functions and cell nourishment, and to eliminate toxins. The men's blend targets prostate health, muscle tone and vitality. As the guests "float" in the bed, the therapists perform a relaxing neck, face and scalp massage and foot reflexology, followed by a 50-minute, full-body massage using an ayurvedic oil blend. S SETTING THE MOOD: Not every spa can match the offerings of the Four Seasons, a 15-acre resort set on picture-perfect Wailea Beach. Not surprisingly, it's popular i t with honeymooners and vacationers celebrating anniversaries, but even outside the designated "Couples Season" (September through November), when the roster of romantic offerings is bolstered, duos have plenty of opportunites for together time. WHY IT'S SWOON-WORTHY: Although many of the spa's services are geared toward couples, the Ultimate Cocoon is particularly popular with twosomes as it gives them an unusual individual sensory experience while in each others' company. The resort is the only spa in Hawaii with the cocoon beds, which provide a tranquil floating sensation without the need to get wet. "Shedding the stress of travel and floating weightlessly together—what better way to re-connect and begin a romantic getaway?" says senior spa director Pat Makozak. THE WELL SPA AT MIRAMONTE RESORT & SPA (miramonteresort.com) Indian Wells, California THE SERVICE: Pittura Festa (90 min./$350) At the start of the "painting party", clients are given paintbrushes and a palette of four muds indigenous to the desert. The green, red, gold and charcoal muds all carry unique benefits for the skin, such as detoxifying and moisturizing. Once the therapist describes the muds and tools, the couple is left in a private open-air "grotto" to paint for about 25 minutes (bathing suits are optional!). After the session, guests rinse in their private outdoor shower and get settled into their secluded cabana for a 60-minute side-by-side customized couples' Maestro massage. S SETTING THE MOOD: "The privacy of the setting allows couples to totally switch off the 58 DAYSPA | JANUARY 2014 world and tune in to one another," according to Michelle Stewart, spa director. Following the treatment, guests are free to use the rest of the facilities at the 12,000-square-foot Tuscanthemed spa near Palm Springs, which include steam rooms and quiet meditation rooms. WHY IT'S SWOON-WORTHY: "This unique treatment is the most popular couples' service at THE WELL Spa," says Laura Hunt Little, marketing manager. "It's sexy, playful and adventurous and allows people to reconnect. The service is popular around Valentine's Day and throughout the year with couples celebrating anniversaries."
