MODERN MAKEOVER Jane Iredale has launched an exclusive new iPad app in partnership with ModiFace, which enables users to give themselves a marvelous makeover with just one finger tap. Jane Iredale Virtual Makeover allows for customized, realistic makeup application and is one of the first apps with the capability to smudge makeup, adjust brush size, and blend and layer products and shades. To begin, users are prompted to take a photo of themselves using the iPad camera or upload one from their Facebook account or iPad photo archives. Once the image is uploaded, users can tap on a facial feature (such as eyes) to bring up various color options for that feature. Color can be applied using one's fingers as a "brush" (which can be made smaller or larger). The app includes commands that enable users to change or redo their looks until they're satisfied. Also included is a "makeup tools" bar that allows users to blend makeup, smudge detailed areas and even remove minor mishaps. After a look has been perfected, users can finalize it and compare it to their original shot via side-by-side before-andafter images. They can also save the products and tools used and purchase them online or at a nearby store suggested by the app. Users' looks and product recommendations can be saved, emailed or shared via Twitter and Facebook directly from the app. Slow Beauty Central PATENT NO LONGER PENDING SpaRitual has unveiled its revamped website, which includes a number of new components designed to provide a more interactive experience as well as a closer look at the brand's philosophy. Creative Nail Design (CND, cnd.com) has been awarded no less than six patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its CND Shellac system. The recognition comes three years after the official launch of the formula. "These patents for CND Shellac are a validation of our innovation," says vice president of Research & Development for CND, Dr. Dave Valia. "They solidify our technical leadership and protect our investment in creating a new category in nail coatings performance and care." Introduced in 2010, CND Shellac features a three-part system that consists of the CND Shellac Base Coat, Color Coat and Top Coat. Each product can be cured in the CND UV Lamp in zero dry time, and lasts for up to 14 days. Each of the system's components—Base Coat, Color Coat, Top Coat and UV Lamp—now holds at least one patent of its own. dayspamagazine.com | JANUARY 2014 95
