Face & Body Midwest Spa Conference & Expo WRAP UP It's safe to say that the focus of March's Face & Body Midwest Spa Conference & Expo in Chicago was on the two "i"s: inspiration and innovation. Attended by more than 5,000 skincare professionals, the two-day conference boasted a lineup of high-profi le guest speakers, education and networking opportunities via an exhibitor hall that housed 192 vendors. "This year's Face & Body Midwest was a huge success," says show director Sandy Chapin. "We experienced a signifi cant increase in both numbers of participating exhibitors and attendees. We continue to witness a positive energy among spa owners and estheticians who are hungry for product knowledge and education, which clearly demonstrates that the Midwest is a growing market," she added. Four industry-specifi c seminars were also available to attendees: Hyperpigmentation/Antiaging, Acne/Rosacea, The Body and Business Summit. Top skincare leaders including Kris Campbell of Tecniche, Lydia Sarfati of Repêchage and Christine Heathman of GlyMed Plus demonstrated the latest and greatest treatments and products from their respective lines. Also on hand to offer her expertise was JoElle Lee, personal esthetician to First Lady Michelle Obama. Lee facilitated the conference's opening session, entitled "My Journey from Chicago to the White House", in which she discussed her professional path in skin care. "JoElle's inspiring and energizing talk encouraged attendees to take action and follow through in their careers," says Cathy Christensen, conference director. Closing up the conference was Anne Martin, co-founder of The Seattle Skin Care Symposium, who explored the relationship between spa owners and clients in treating skin; setting client-behavior boundaries; retailing products; business commitment; and professional integrity. Christensen said Martin's segment brought guests into a calm and quietly motivated state of mind. "The entire event was an incredible experience and I can't wait for it to evolve even more next year!" she added. This year's Face & Body Midwest was the ultimate skincare event, incorporating the latest innovations and treatments, a range of educational opportunities and an impressive roster of skincare brands.
