YOUR WELLNESS SPA Founded in 2007, Allyu Spa (allyuspa.com) has become a port in a storm for the stressed-out populace of Chicago—and quite a few out-of- towners as well. The 6,000-plus-square-foot spa, founded by Tamara Wills in 2007, enjoys a laundry list of kudos, including that of being named a top spa in Chicago Magazine. Allyu is the Quechua word for "community", and the spa takes its name seriously. "We believe we are all part of a community and that our actions affect the whole," reads one part of the spa's 11-point mission statement. Among its efforts in this regard is the free lunchtime meditation offered at the spa and open to anyone, the second Wednesday of every month. For Wills, the journal is personal as well as communal. "I'm continually amazed and appreciative of the challenges to my personal growth that spa ownership provides," she says. "A spa is one of the few places in our society where nurture, touch and caring occurs between individuals who barely know each other.
