22 DAYSPA | AUGUST 2014 SPOTLIGHT ON... Acne Care Spa pros sound off on the best ways to beat blemishes. By Angela Melero What does your spa offer in the way of treatments for teen and/or adult acne? Melanie Mueller, owner of Scents of Serenity Organic Spa in Glen Allen, Virginia: Our Advanced Acne Treatment (60 min./$185) features ingredients that reduce breakouts without stripping the skin, as well as an LED Light Therapy system, which uses blue light to destroy bacteria associated with acne and red light to calm infl amed skin. For adult clients with acne, we incorporate hydrating products into the facials too. Marie Monet, owner of Marie Monet European Skincare & Medical Spa in La Mesa, California: My Acne Facial (90 min./$100-$175) is customized to the severity of the acne. Depending on the condition of the skin, I'll add microdermabrasion. Overall, my focus is on getting skin and pores completely clean. When treating teens, I opt for more gentle ingredients and treatments and I skip the deep-pore cleansing, as it can be uncomfortable. Young clients prefer services to be quick, easy and painless. I fi nd that adults are more open to enduring some discomfort for the sake of their skin. Stacy Cox, owner of Pampered People in Studio City, California: My approach is tailored to each person. The psychology with adult versus teen acne is totally different, even though both can be caused by hormonal imbalances. I offer three acne treat- ments. One is a Mini Acne Facial (30 min./$45), which involves a cleanse, steam and mask—there's no real pampering. The second is a series of fi ve 45-minute On-the-Spot Solutions Éminence Clear Skin Willow Bark Booster-Serum Acne-prone skin is healed and soothed via a concentrated boost of willow bark, tea tree oil and horsetail extract. 888.747.6342, eminence organics.com Glo-Therapeutics Clear Acne Cleanser Gentle scrubbing beads clear the skin's surface to allow for optimum salicylic acid penetration, while apple enzymes exfoliate. 800.232.0398, gloprofessional .com Somme Institute A-Bomb Combining patented MDT5 technology with high concentrations of vitamins A and E, this lightweight yet powerful formula improves skin texture and tone. 866.66.SOMME, sommeinstitute.com Bye Bye Blemish Drying Lotion This overnight treatment gives blemishes the brush- off, thanks to its deeply penetrating combo of salicylic acid and anti- bacterial sulfur. 800.621.9585, byebyeblemish .com Naturopathica Moss Blemish Treatment Mask Used as a spot treatment, mask or blended, this multitasker clarifi es pores, absorbs oil, reduces redness and heals aggravated skin. 800.669.7618, naturopathica.com Sesha Acne Control Lotion Benzoyl peroxide increases skin turnover, clears pores and reduces bacteria, while niacinamide and tea tree oil prevent infl ammation and promote healing. 888.977.3742, seshaskin.com
