86 DAYSPA | APRIL 2016 IN THE NEWS Veritiv Corporation's Packaging Solutions Group recently announced the creation of Earth Pact Sugar Cane Paperboard, a sustainable packaging option for the cosmetics and food industries. Developed in partnership with Carvajal Pulp and Paper, the new material is made entirely of pure sugarcane bagasse, an agricultural by-product of the sugar-making process. Grown year-round and harvested every 12 to 14 months, sugarcane is considered a rapidly renewable resource. The sugarcane fi ber paper contains no bleach, chemicals or dyes and comes in moisture- and grease-resistant grades. Because this new packaging option is "tree free", the company estimates that 2,600 trees will be saved annually.
