106 DAYSPA | SEPTEMBER 2016 IN THE NEWS In recognition of its commitment to providing ecologically responsible beauty products, Jurlique has been named winner of the Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Beauty Award in the Eco Beauty category. The Australian skincare brand was picked by CEW's 6,000- plus members as a fi nalist, then ultimately chosen by CEW's Board of Governors, along with select members of the beauty industry. For more than 30 years, Jurlique has grown and extracted its own product ingredients at its Adelaide Hills farm in South Australia using biodynamic farming methods, and has worked extensively to develop ecologically sound packaging and distribution methods. Rose Fernandez, Jurlique's vice president and general manager, North America, says the company is continually raising the bar on its commitment to sustainability. "Over the last few years, we've installed solar panels and a power production system at the Jurlique farm and warehouse," she reports. The company also repurposes its factory water to irrigate its own crops and is making changes to optimize the recyclability of its product packaging, with a goal to achieve zero percent waste to landfi ll by 2020. On June 12, SAIAN celebrated the grand opening of a new location in North Hollywood, California, with a day of raffl es, networking and fun. In addition to enjoying a popcorn bar, desserts and cocktails, guests received swag bags and door prizes. The 4,000 square-foot space, which will serve as the skincare brand's new headquarters, comprises a warehouse, training facility and showroom equipped with beds for professionals to be able to receive hands-on training. Regular events will also be held on site. The new premises follows the successful opening of the brand's Lerum, Sweden, outpost in 2015. Sustainable Success Hollywood HQ
