Westin Hotels and Resorts recently launched a multi-million dollar wellness campaign pondering the question, "Will you get up, or will you rise?," which highlights the importance of wellness for hotel guests. The company emphasizes six pillars of well-being—sleep well, eat well, move well, feel well, work well and play well—which are modeled after survey results revealed a shift toward well- being and leisure travel as priorities for today's society. Upscale health club and spa chain Equinox has announced it will enter the hotel space and has appointed new leadership to focus on these priorities. The company named Amanda Al-Masri, previously the global director of spa operations and development for Starwood Hotels and Resorts, as vice president of spa services. Her tenure begins as plans for the fi rst Equinox hotel in New York City's Hudson Yards take root for 2018. The hotel will fi ll travelers' wellness needs with a gym, several pools and a large spa. The Hyatt Hotels Corporation is also partaking in this trend; the industry giant has acquired the Miraval Group, a wellness provider with a fl agship property in Tucson, Arizona. Through the merger, Miraval will form a distinct new wellness category within the Hyatt brand, and the companies aim to redevelop the Travaasa Resort in Austin, Texas, and pursue the acquisition and redevelopment of the Cranwell Spa & Golf Resort in Lenox, Massachusetts.
