[ 12 ] • # dayspamagazine • july 2017 A World of Wellness T E A M T R A V E L S Laura talked sun protection with La Roche-Posay in West Hollywood from the editor by Lesley McCave One of the mid- year wellness trends just announced by spa consultancy Raison d'Etre is "Accessible & Aff ordable Wellness." For more, go to raisondetreblog.com. Sarah had fun at the West Coast ISPA Media Event at the Montage Beverly Hills I stocked up on Neal's Yard Remedies goodies in London's Covent Garden R ecently, I was intrigued to learn about two new wellness ventures, both located in iconic department stores but on diff erent sides of the planet. In London, Harrods has unveiled a 10,500-square-foot Wellness Clinic, featuring esthetics, wellness and dermatology experts, treatment rooms, one-on-one training studios and even a personalized skincare service based on clients' genetics. In New York City through the end of October, Saks Fifth Avenue will be home to the Wellery—6,000 square feet covering 22 immersive wellness experiences, from athleisure wear and skincare products to mini fi tness studios hosting classes and events. So what's the key takeaway from these one-stop wellness shops—that we can sneak in a workout while buying a new designer handbag? Maybe. But there's a bigger message: Wellness is on the way to mainstream. Although the two above examples might be considered extreme—let's face it, not everyone has the budget to shop at upscale stores like these on a frequent basis—surely this marks a step in the right direction. Here's hoping that other, more aff ordable department stores are inspired to follow suit and truly bring wellness to the masses. In that vein, this issue is packed with inspiration for your own wellness off erings, whether you run a diminutive day spa or work in an expansive resort. In Spotlight (page 40), experts extol the healing and soothing virtues of massage; Making Waves (page 14) discusses the stress-busting benefi ts of fl otation therapy; and our "Polished Perfection" feature (page 48) rounds up nine standout scrub services that do a body—and mind—good. Wellness is clearly touching all aspects of our lives, as proved by another growing sector: wellness tourism, which accounts for $563 billion of the total $3.7 trillion worldwide wellness industry fi gure, according to the Global Wellness Institute. To glean more insight, our second feature, "Destination: Wellness" (page 28), sneaks a peek at fi ve grand facilities in the U.S. that epitomize this booming movement. The key takeaway from us? However you do wellness, do it well.
